I'm glad to see that The Dixie Chicks are coming out with a new album - mostly because I love their music. I'm also glad to see that they are speaking out against all of the idiots who actually *mailed them death threats* after the bruhaha over the "I'm ashamed Bush is from Texas" comment. It was a very ugly moment of completely OTT inanity. The whole point of free speach is that anyone should be free to express such opinions and that *adults* should be able to agree to disagree. And no, it is not the right of free speach to then threaten someone becuase you do not agree with them. Arggg!

Mines had every right to say what she did. Was it the wisest thing to do? Debateable - but it certainly wasn't a threatening, inflamtory or libelous statement. It was certainly incindiary, but one has to wonder exactly what people were thinking when they went totally nuts over it, had them banned from radio stations, and burned their records. See, little actions like that are why people feel justified for hating extreemists and whipping out Godwin's Law faster than a texas jack-rabbit hoppin' across the East Texas desert at high noon in June. It's also frightening to see that intollerant mob mentality getting away with things like that. The Dixie Chicks are not going to let them, and good for them.

Extreemism is ugly in all formats, and in this situation it was not the Dixie Chicks who were being rigid extreemists. And nobody should ever be followed blindly - I think a lot of people justifed their actions as ones made by 'good Americans' standing up for the President. Frankly, I think being a good American is being always willing to call the actions of elected officals into question constantly, and to respect that there is no such thing as a 'completly good' public figure or a 'completely bad' one (with the possible exception of one or two recently indicted scumbags). You are not doing anyone any favours taking anything without question.

Rock on, ladies.
