Poor Sean Penn. He'd really like to be healthy, but - of course - his failure to do so is Bush's fault!

Actor Sean Penn added to the enthusiasm of the day by stressing that all of the nation's anti-war activism was taking hold and was starting to work—while admitting that the stress of living under the current administration was making it tough for him to quit smoking. Stating that he "was not a pacifist on the inside", he was moved to be one on the outside for the sake of his children and grandchildren's future. He said we have to fight for everything we have.

Pretty pathetic. So is it the fault of people I don't like that I gained a lot of weight becuase living with their actions made me too stressed to quit porking out? Oh wait - that can't be right becuase I'm registered as a republican voter, ergo I support EVERYTHING anyone with an R after their name does/thinks, and since they are are evil, heartless, racist, women-hating, dog-kicking bastards, so am I and it's my own damn fault I've gained some. I love the Monty Python logic of extreemism.

Sad part is, I think that Sean Penn has excellent motivations even if I find his actions and words a bit tiring at times. And he has grown into a tremendous actor because he focuses all of the intensity he carries with him 24/7. He can't quit smoking becuase he can't relax, and if to him this is becuase the current administration keeps him up at nights, well that's his choice. Mr. Clinton & his merry band gave me heartburn on more than one occasion until I learned to put things in perspective. Come to think of it, President Bush has sent me into a few furious tirades as well, although it is that bastard DeLay who tends to make me openly weep for the future. Luckily, it looks like that fool has been hobbled; people like him are WHY the Sean Penns of the planet assume all the R-folks are evil and corrupt and we really don't need them "on our side".

Ultimately I guess as an individual you have to choose if you agree with the Ben Franklin quote I used as the subject ("He that is good for making excuses is seldom good for anything else"), or if you are more inclined toward a line from Sophocles: "The end excuses any evil".
