Hollywood Entertainment (though not how they envision it)
Hahahahahahhaha! HAHAHAHAHA!
Oh man, now that's amusing. Pair it with the US film industry's continued 'perplexed attitude' as to why movie audiences are fading fast, and it takes on a serious gut-busting quality. Oliver Stone has made some amazing pics ("Any Given Sunday" and "Natural Born Killers" in addition to "Platoon") but he is also capable of ... well... let's just say 'not so amazing pics'. Generally the ones that deal with "historical fact" as it were. There's nothing wrong with revisionism, it is a time-honored human practice since the advent of communication among our species. I'm not sure who thought he would be the right man for this material, but if this is a choice they think will get the finances of Paramount back in shape, there are some *serious* issues with the leadership.
Were I more inclined to be one of the paranoid, extreemist, 'everything is a conspiracy from the YOU KNOW WHOS' characters in a Stone movie, however, I would suspect that this was a plot that had everything to do with getting agendas on 3,500 screens in 70 MM (domestic alone) and nothing to do with profit. Were I so inclined.
Now, if Stone *does* manage to pull this off as a tale of "heroism" which has "international understanding" I will gladly eat crow. I have no issues with eating crow when it is called for. However, were I a betting person I would not be investing in dental floss right now, as I don't think I'll need to get those pesky quill feathers out of my teeth any time soon.
